Short Story: Fly On The Wall

Back in 2004, I was asked to do a short story for a graphic novel called Ellium: Hybrid. It was a compilation of various short comic stories. The intro to the book was actually just a six page story. No art.

Jason Moser, the creator of the Ellium Universe, asked me to write for him along with another short comic piece titled Risks Of Departure which is also posted on this site.

This short story is named Fly On The Wall. I wasn't sure how I was going to present it on the blog here but I figured the best way to do it was to post it as a PDF file. Why? Because it just looks better that way. So what that means is that you have to have Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to view it. Just about everyone on the internet and in publishing knows what this is but if you don't, it's an easy install.

So read the story and tell me what you think by using the comment form. Like I said, story was published years ago but I always like to hear from people as far as what they think about my work.

But just so we understand each other...I can find out where you live...MUHAHAHHAHA.

The Dance Report

This was a fun article to write. It was basically an info article breaking down the different genres of dance music to the Christian music industry.

I was a radio DJ at a Christian radio station for about seven years. The radio program I had, Zero Gravity, showcased some of the best Christian hip hop and dance music, the music that particular market wasn't too keen on. They're pretty much behind the times when it comes to that. Still are to this day. It's one of the reasons why I felt it was time to go after such a long stretch.

The guy in the picture right there is Scott Blackwell. Used to be real popular back in the day in some clubs in New York. Know him personally. He started a couple of music companies. One was MYX Records and the other was N-Soul. The whole story behind how the new owner, Phillip Kim, acquired N-Soul is....not good. Maybe one day I'll do a full fledged article about that at my other blog Stop The Musick which is still under construction so no sneak peaks for anyone as of yet.

I remember when I wrote the article, the editor was very vague on what he wanted in it. Since you had most of the kids in the CCM market listening to either rock, wannabe-but-not-quite-pop, and adult contemporary because that's what they're parents were listening to, I decided to do a straightforward article that would be a very basic introduction to dance music. When he got the article, I remember him saying, "Well...it wasn't exactly what I was looking for." He thought all the kids knew the genres but I had to convince him that that simply wasn't the case. After I sold him on that idea, he decided to print it and voila, feature story.

Back In The Saddle

Well goodness...it's been a minute since I've done anything with this blog. However, life changes and my life has changed drastically. So , that being the case, I've decided to write for a living.

No. Really.

Stop laughing.

I'm serious.

After years of working for other people and knowing that I just have this in me, plus with the advent of the internet and it simply making my job as a writer that much easier, the next step is to be disciplined enough to do the work on a regular basis. I'm still deciding on what kind of writing I'll be doing but we'll definitely see more posts as I have quite a few writing projects that I want to dole out.

This will be the first of many posts as I'll be using this blog as an online portfolio of my past work. So the next posts will be those past articles.

Man....it just hit me.

Now I know why you were laughing.
